Another winner from Waitrose with this succulent Rhône blend comes the Kilikanoon from South Australia, apart from being a bit of a tongue twister (especially after a few glasses) this blend of Grenache , Shiraz and Mataro (Mourvedre) is full of ripe summer fruits and a joy to drink.
Kilikanoon – Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro 2018
The sun is shining, so time for a bright summery red, step forward the Kilikanoon 2018. Chilled this lightly for 30 minutes or so and it turned out to be a very enjoyable red.
Mainly Grenache and Shiraz 50/40% with a splash of Mataro (Mourvedre) this was surprisingly light in colour but by no means light in taste. Nose in the glass the fruit hits you immediately, raspberries, plums along with a flowery almost perfumed aroma.
In the mouth it bursts with juicy fruits with just the right amount of acidity, spice is there and a touch of meatiness on the finish. Even at 14% the alcohol doesn’t seem to intrude and was hardly noticeable and made this very easy to drink, perhaps a little too easy.
Bought this on offer but I would happily pay the full price for it, this was a lovely well balanced Aussie treat and if you want a red to drink in the sunshine, stick it in the fridge for half an hour and enjoy with friends.
