Here we go again with another celebrity wine this time from ‘Take That’ frontman Gary Barlow, following in the footsteps of others including Sir Ian Botham, Kylie Minogue, Cliff Richard, Graham Norton, Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie and Sting to name just a few.
Mr Barlow’s two bottle range initially caught my eye as they are both made with Spanish grapes which include Verdejo/Viura for the white and Tempranillo/Syrah for the red, both organically grown in Spain’s Castilla region.
The wines are now for sale in around 460 Morrisons supermarkets retailing at £8 a bottle (currently on promotion for £6). The distinctive bottles are adorned with a piano key logo and of course Gary’s name.

So what’s it like? well, my initial thoughts were, it does taste like a Verdejo/Viura, if perhaps a little confected and it’s certainly made to appeal. There’s some lemon, lime and grapefruit with some sweeter stewed pears along with tropical flavours of peach and pineapple. The acidity is also there keeping it reasonably fresh-tasting, this has had around two months on Lees giving it a slightly creamy texture and body.
Overall, it’s an ok wine, maybe a touch on the sweet side and the finish could be a bit longer, it did seem to cut off quickly but in the celebrity wine world, it holds its own and a lot better than some and in Gary’s word ‘I want you back, I want you back’ well, I wouldn’t refuse if offered this again.
